Tankless Water Heater Installation & Repair in Buffalo, NY

How Tankless Water Heaters Work

A tankless water heater, also called an on-demand water heater, heats water as it passes through a heat exchanger rather than storing a large volume at constant temperature. When you turn on a hot water tap, the unit fires immediately and delivers heated water to the fixture without drawing from a stored tank.

There are two main types:

• Whole-house tankless water heaters supply hot water for the entire home. Installed near the main water line, they can serve multiple fixtures simultaneously.
• Point-of-use tankless water heaters serve a single fixture and install near it. This is useful for a remote sink or bathroom where long waits for hot water are a problem.

Because the unit heats only what you use, it eliminates standby energy loss: the energy a conventional tank consumes to keep stored water hot around the clock. The result can be lower energy use and a supply of hot water that doesn’t run out.

Top Advantages of Going Tankless

Switching from a conventional tank system delivers measurable advantages for Buffalo homeowners, particularly given the region’s climate and the smaller utility footprints common in older Western New York homes.

• Energy savings: According to the U.S. Department of Energy, tankless models are 24 to 34 percent more energy efficient than tank water heaters for households using up to 41 gallons of hot water daily. Households using around 86 gallons daily can see an additional 8 to 14 percent efficiency gain.
• Unlimited hot water: On-demand heating means you won’t run out mid-shower or while running multiple fixtures at once.
• Space savings: Wall-mounted units recover basement or utility room floor space. That’s a real advantage in the tighter footprints common in older Buffalo homes.
• Longer lifespan: Tankless units typically last 20 years or more, compared to 10 to 15 years for traditional tank water heaters, which can translate into long-term cost savings.
• Reduced risk of water damage: With no stored tank, there’s no risk of corrosion failure flooding your basement or utility room.

Maximizing the Life of Your Tankless Water Heater

A tankless water heater can last 20 years or more, but reaching that lifespan depends on two things: professional installation and consistent annual maintenance. Correct sizing, proper venting to prevent carbon monoxide hazards, and compliance with local building codes all affect safety and warranty validity from day one. Our licensed technicians handle gas line work, venting, and code requirements on the first visit, and our fully stocked service vehicles mean most jobs are completed without a return trip.

Once installed, annual professional descaling is the single most important maintenance task. It flushes mineral buildup from the heat exchanger before scale restricts flow or triggers shutdowns. This is especially important in Western New York, where hard water conditions accelerate accumulation and can shorten unit life without regular attention. We back our installations with a 100% satisfaction guarantee: if something we’ve installed doesn’t perform as expected, we return to correct it without additional charge. For ongoing maintenance or any repair need, our plumbing team is available to keep your system running at full efficiency.

Signs Your Tankless Water Heater Needs Repair

Buffalo’s cold climate and hard water conditions put real stress on tankless systems. Catching problems early prevents minor faults from becoming major failures. Here are the key indicators that something needs professional attention.

• Error codes or unexpected shutdowns: Modern units display specific numeric or alphanumeric codes when a fault occurs, often shutting down as a safety precaution. Record the exact code before calling. It allows for accurate diagnosis and reduces service time.
• Significant drop in water flow or pressure: If hot water runs noticeably weaker than cold, the unit is likely suffering from scale buildup inside the heat exchanger. Mineral deposits from hard water clog the narrow passages and require professional descaling to clear.
• Inconsistent or lukewarm temperature: Cold bursts or failure to reach the set temperature point to a problem with heating components or gas supply: a dirty flame sensor, a malfunctioning ignition component, or insufficient gas pressure to sustain the burner.
• Unusual noises: Loud banging, popping, or cracking sounds often indicate mineral or sediment buildup inside the heat exchanger. The noise signals boiling water and warrants a prompt professional flush to help prevent internal component damage.
• Failure to start in cold weather: In Buffalo winters, incoming groundwater temperatures drop significantly, straining a unit’s capacity to meet the required temperature rise. Cold-weather shutdowns typically indicate a capacity mismatch or a component that needs adjustment.

We dispatch technicians 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including weekends and holidays, and we fix root causes rather than applying temporary patches. We also offer emergency plumbing services and handle repair calls for commercial properties as well.
